EDMOND, Okla. - The Rogers State womens golf team captured its first team tournament title of the 2012-13 school year as the Hillcats won by nine strokes over second place and NCAA Division II Harding University at the Diffee Ford Lincoln Invitational at Kickingbird Golf Club.
RSU sat in second place entering Tuesdays final round of play behind Harding by just three strokes after shooting a 324. With winds gusting up to 22 miles per hour in Edmond Tuesday the Hillcats shot a 340, twelve strokes better than Harding, to claim the team title with a 664 tournament total in the six team field loaded with five NCAA Division II squads.
Raquel Trevino rebounded from a rocky opening round 83 to shoot a final round, tournament low nine-over par 79 on the par 70, 5,821 yard course. The freshman carded 162 for the tournament finishing tied for fourth.
Fellow freshman Kelsey Stuever shot a consistent 82-83 for a 165 to tie for seventh four strokes ahead of junior Whitney Hocutt. A Claremore, Okla. native, Hocutt shot a team best 79 in the opening round but struggled Tuesday penciling a 90 for a 169 total and 10th place finish.
Cecilie Nordahl shot 81-88 to tie Hocutt at tenth with a 169 while Chelsea Burney tied for 16 after entering a 172 tournament card.
Oklahoma Christians Morgan Dockery won the individual championship with a 156 shooting 72-84.
