The University of Oklahoma womens golf team shot a final-round 299 Tuesday to finish one stroke behind champion TCU at the 15-team Central District Invitational at the par-72 River Wilderness Golf Club in Parrish, Fla.
OU sophomore Chirapat Ja Jao-Javanil claimed her second individual title of the season with a three-round 212 (-4).
It marked the third time in six tournaments this season that the Sooners, who are ranked No. 28, finished in first or second place. OU, which entered the day with a two-shot lead over the Horned Frogs, finished ahead of three top-10 teams and six other top-50 squads.
We played solid all week, said OU head coach Veronique Drouin. We came back after a tough tournament last week. We have a couple weekends to work on a few shots before heading out to Arizona.
Jao-Javanil, ranked No. 48 nationally, carded a third-round 74 to win the title by two strokes over LSUs Tessa Teachman. Jao-Javanil, who also won the Golfweek Invitational in September, held a five-shot lead entering the day thanks in part to her career-best-tying 68 in Mondays first round.
Ja played solid this week, said Drouin. She was pretty disappointed after her play last week. She definitely came back strong and Im proud of her. She beat some great players and hopefully this will give her confidence for the rest of the semester.
Sophomore Anne-Catherine Tanguay improved upon her second-round score by three strokes to climb her way into a tie for 21st place out of 75 competitors. She fired a third-round 73 for a three-round total of 224.
Taylor Schmidt and Emily Collins each finished the third round with a 4-over 76, tying them for 31st place at +12. Sophomore Jade Staggs also finished in 31st place after recording a final-round 80 (+8).
The Sooners will be back in action March 16-18 when they travel to Mesa, Ariz., for the Clover Cup.
